The Gumpert Apollo Sport made its debut at the 2007 Geneva Auto Show as a racing sports car. This sport version of the Apollo made its debut last year at the same show.

The Apollo Sport is powered by a 4.2-liter V8 engine (note: like the one used in the Audi R9 sports car) enhanced by twin exhaust parts and gas turbochargers claiming top speed of more than 200 mph. It is a two-seat mid-engine race car along with 650 horses which makes little allowance to be road legal on its six-speed transmission prowess.

Overall, the car’s exterior looks purposeful. The front wheel arches hug the tires in a perfect circle before dissolving into the multiple vents down the sides. Noticeable race inspired design cues include the front lip air splitter and roof mounted triangular air intake.

The Apollo’s sporty and luxury interior stresses on its comfort assets featuring Alcantara leather, air-conditioning, a CD player and other various cabin thingamabobs.

Roland Gumpert (former chief of Audi’s Quattro division) was responsible for many of the company’s rally efforts and Audi tuning specialist Roland Mayer set up Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur a few years ago creating the ultimate road-raging racing car.

No doubt, this Apollo Sport evokes passion and driving pleasure of being a road vehicle and track car - rolled into one.
